At RXSG, we strive to make products that stand up to the rigors of hard training yet provide comfort and reliability, and today we’re excited to announce two new additions to our Alec Smith Signature hand grip collection.
Before we introduce these exciting new products, let’s get reacquainted with Mr. Alec Smith. We think it is helpful to understand the background and expertise that Alec brought to the design table when developing his signature line of gymnastic grips.
Alec is the younger brother of four-time podium finisher and 2015 CrossFit Games Champion Ben Smith. The Smith family must have won the athletic DNA lottery, as Alec is also a four-time CrossFit Games athlete (2 individual, 2 team) and a member of the 2019 CrossFit Games Silver Medal Team. Alec’s sports talents don’t stop there. In high school, Alec participated in volleyball, swim team, dive team, track and field, and tennis and graduated with 16 Varsity letters. And if all of that wasn’t enough, Alec was a high-level gymnast for 10 years.
MEET ALEC
Athlete and Designer of the Alec Smith 3 Finger & Heavy Duty Grips
Featured collection
Not many humans possess the same level of competitive CrossFit and high-level gymnastics as Alec Smith. It’s the combination of these two very unique experiences that Alec drew his inspiration to design the first ever Free Finger Alec Smith grip. The Alec Smith grip raised the bar and sent a message to all other grip manufacturers, who soon followed suit. The Alec Smith grip boasted a single piece construction of soft yet durable leather. It included neoprene padding on a 1 and ½ wrist strap for additional support and introduced the elastic grip keeper that allows the grip to tuck away when not in use. All of these original design elements ushered in a new era of grip design and functionality.
That brings us to Alec’s latest gymnastic grip designs that are sure to excite the fitness community.
The first is the three-finger model.
We love our original “finger free” design because it allows you to seamlessly transition between bar work and everything else in your workout. However, we know that some athletes like their grips to fit more securely onto their hands.
3 FINGER GRIPS
Gymnastic grip designs that are sure to excite the fitness community.
The Alec Smith 3 Finger grips introduce a new eyelid shaped finger hole that fits both snug and comfortably to the fingers providing the most secure grip on your hands and on the pull up bar. The Smith 3 Finger grips are made of the same soft, durable leather and include the neoprene padding and elastic grip keepe as the original Free Finger grips.
Features
1.
Three finger holes keep you securely and comfortably connected to the grips.
2.
A fold of tough, thin leather protects you from ripping no matter the movement.
3.
Same premium design and materials as our Alec Smith 2.0 “free finger” grips.
The second product is the Alec Smith HD, which stands for Heavy Duty.
Recommended for athletes 200 pounds and above, the Smith HD grips use a thicker natural leather than their siblings to withstand more torque yet still feel soft and comfortable on the bar.
Like all grips in the Smith Signature line, theses too will come with neoprene padding and the elastic grip keeper. The Smith HD grips are ready to stand up to the challenge of two a day workouts and high volume pulling.
Features
1.
Even Thicker Leather to withstands more torque.
2.
A Flexible Flap provides full protection for your hand.
3.
Same premium Design & Materials as all of our other Alec Smith grips.
Another part of our evolution as a brand, we updated the look with our iconic Rx arrow Logo, which is now available on our Alec Smith grips.
If you tune into the CrossFit Games, this is what you’ll see many of the sport’s most elite athletes wearing, including four-time podium finisher Laura Horvath as well as fan favorites Danielle Brandon and Dallin Pepper.
When it comes to hand protection, don’t worry: All of our grips are made of premium leather that’s flexible but durable. And to answer any questions about fit, here’s a video from the man himself.
1.
The grip should cover your whole palm and midway up your fingers (if you're on the fence, buy a size up).
2.
The bar should initially land right under the logo so the grips can extend past your fingertips when hanging.
3.
When you're off the bar, tuck the logo into the "grip keeper" band to keep your hands clear.
